To use a volume-oriented incentive spirometer, sit upright and hold the device at eye level. Exhale normally, then place the mouthpiece in your mouth, sealing your lips around it. Inhale slowly and deeply through the mouthpiece, raising the piston to the target volume level, then hold your breath for a few seconds before exhaling normally and repeating the process as instructed by your healthcare provider.
